Defining true success

Alyssa Reeppy Eugenio Parungao, CPA, one of 4,246 successful October 2013 Certified Public Accountant Board examinees, conducted an interview Friday, October 25, with VoicePoints Content Manager and Pinoy CPA Online Administrator Paul Michael Camania Jaramillo that covered a wide range of topics — her goals, plans, college education and board exam.

What were your goals or objectives during your undergrad years?

I just have to make sure that I pass the subject without any kind of cheating involved. Along with the thorough understanding about the whole concept of the subject, wala sakin ang pagiging Uno sa klase. Basta naintindihan ko at pumasa ako. Yun na.

What is the greatest failure you had during college and how did you overcome it?

Greatest Failure? Hmmm. I can't think of any. Wala talaga ako maisip. Pero I'm not saying that I haven't had any failure during college days. Meron, but i'ts not that super depressing. Maybe because I'm a happy person , a positive thinker. Goodvibes lang.

How is formal review different from college education?

During college, we only care about our grades, the exams, long awaited vacation. We sometimes forget our past subjects and just move on to the next torturing subjects. In our formal review, there is only one goal, TO PASS THE BOARD EXAM. It's like a matter of life and death – die if you fail, live if you pass.

What is your formula of passing the board exam?

A PATH WITH CONFIDENCE plus MOTIVATION ON THE SIDES and a RAINBOW OF FAITH IN GOD and of course, review your lessons, especially the concepts.

How do you define success?

True success is when you can die without regrets in everything you've done in achieving your goal.

Any words for the BSA students and people you want to thank?

Don't aim for a 1.00 grade. Hindi ‘yan maica-carry over sa Board Exam. Aim for the understanding and the overall concept of any subject you take. Don't lose hope even if you feel like you're not going to make it. Believe me, with the help of God, together with your efforts – Magiging CPA din kayo. Don't give up! Never give up!

Syempre, I want to thank the Northwestern University-Laoag for giving me the chance to study accounting in the university. Greater thanks to Sir Dan (Rodante Ramos, CPA) for patiently teaching us every subject. Kahit na holidays, may klase pa din. Thank you sa mga time na ‘yon. To Sir Quiroga (Ferdinand Quiroga, CPA) for the jokes during the college days, Sir Eric for the challenging exams. My friends, kahit na nalayo ako sa kanila, text pa din ng text. My family for all the support they gave. All glory and thanks to Jehovah God, for making it all possible.

Music expresses my mood.. my every move, and my emotions..

Alyssa graduated from the Northwestern University - Laoag with a degree in Accounting.
